Kelly Clarkson Addresses Ozempic Rumors: Clarifies Medication Was Due to Alarming Bloodwork Results
"The medicine I'm on is different from what people assume, but I had to start it because my bloodwork got so bad," Clarkson revealed on her daytime show.
Kelly Clarkson has revealed that her recent weight loss is due to medication—but not Ozempic. During Monday's "The Kelly Clarkson Show," episode she addressed the rumors while interviewing guest Whoopi Goldberg. Their conversation began with Clarkson complimenting Goldberg on her appearance. “It’s all the weight I’ve lost. I’ve lost almost two people,” Goldberg said, explaining that she’s been taking the drug Mounjaro. “I am doing that wonderful shot that works for folks who need help, and it’s been perfect for me.” Clarkson shared that she, too, has lost "a lot" of weight, clarifying, “Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that, too, because my bloodwork got so bad.” “Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic. It’s not,” she added. Ozempic, a diabetes medication, is sometimes prescribed off-label for weight loss and has become popular among celebrities for its effectiveness. Clarkson did not specify the name of her medication but described it as “something that aids in helping break down the sugar— my body doesn’t do it right.” “My doctor chased me for, like, two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems,’” she said. She revealed that she weighed 203 pounds at her heaviest and felt unrecognizable.
She shared that she had taped a show for her birthday but, upon watching it back at her home in New York, she suddenly paused and thought, “Who the f--- is that?”
“You see it and you're like, ‘Well, she’s about to die of a heart attack,’” she added.
“It’s a weird thing. … I never saw that. I was never insecure about it. I was happy. People said, 'Oh, she must not have been happy.' No, I was happy. I did not see that,” she explained.
Clarkson recalled talking to her manager, who has known her for over 15 years, and her manager expressed surprise as well, saying, “I know, I’m kind of as shocked as you.” Clarkson noted that because the change was gradual, neither she nor her close ones noticed it.
Clarkson has previously been open about her health journey, revealing in January that she was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. She told People Magazine that she dropped weight by focusing on her diet and being more active.
“I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor—for a couple of years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat—sorry, vegetarians in the world!” she told the magazine, adding that “walking in the city is quite the workout.”
