Rapper Fatman Scoop, the New York City artist known for his hit "Be Faithful," which became a 1990s club anthem, has tragically passed away at the age of 53 after collapsing during a free concert in Connecticut.
Isaac Freeman III, the rapper's real name, was headlining the "Green & Gold Party" in Hamden, Connecticut, when he experienced a medical emergency, according to a local official. A video shared on social media shows the shirtless Freeman energizing the crowd at Town Center Park before stepping up to the DJ booth’s platform and collapsing, out of view of the audience.
Bystanders could be seen performing chest compressions behind the DJ set as other performers on stage led the crowd in prayer, according to the video and reports. Emergency services were called to the park at around 8:33 p.m., with Freeman having been scheduled to start his performance at 7:15 p.m.
Fatman Scoop was transported to a local hospital after being stretchered off the stage. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed that Freeman had suffered a medical emergency before being taken to the hospital. "Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers," Garrett posted on Facebook.
Freeman's death was confirmed on social media Saturday morning by DJ and producer Birch Michael, also known as Pure Cold, who identified himself as the rapper's tour manager. "It is with the heaviest of hearts I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III, professionally known as Fatman Scoop," Michael wrote. "I am honestly lost for words … you took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet. The things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today."
Freeman was originally scheduled to perform at the event last month, but the show was postponed to August due to inclement weather. Reminisce Festival in the UK, where Fatman Scoop was scheduled to perform on September 7, also confirmed his death, stating on Instagram, "Everyone will profoundly feel his absence. He was not just one of our most popular performers, he was a cherished member of the Reminisce family."

Fatman Scoop is best known for his 1990s club hit “Be Faithful,” which has garnered millions of views. He also featured on Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control,” which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2005, and appeared on Mariah Carey’s Grammy-nominated “It’s Like That.” Over his career, he collaborated with artists like Timbaland and Magoo, Nick Cannon, and Skrillex.
Just hours before the tragedy, Fatman Scoop and Dyce Paso had premiered the official music video for their new song “Let It Go.”
